The Norwegian Horticultural Society, Det norske hageselskap, is a non-profit organisation established in 1884. A year later the first issue of our garden magazine; Norsk Hagetidend, was published. Norsk Hagetidend is among the oldest magazines in Norway, still being published.
The Norwegian Horticultural Society´s goal has been to achieve excellence in horticulture, in both private and public spaces, and thus ensure a more healthy and sustainable environment for more than 135 years.
Our organisation has approximately 21 000 members and it is organized in 19 regions and 330 local groups called Hagelag. Our headquarters is located in Oslo, with 8 employees.
The Norwegian Horticultural Society seeks to inspire joy in gardening and increase knowledge. The Garden term is interpreted widely, including the traditional garden, balconies, terrace gardens, allotment gardens, shared backyard gardens. Growing vegetables, fruit, herbs and berries has become hugely popular and our local groups, among a broad variety of offers, frequently give lectures on growing food crops.
